Konstantin Tumasov
The keeper of the studio's image: how the work is seen, how it moves, and how it travels.
Biography
Konstantin Tumasov directs the visual production of Kintsugi Gallery. Film, motion, 3D — the work the studio makes about its own work. He shoots and edits the exhibition films, builds the moving image around each release, and develops the digital pieces that travel from the gallery into the journal, the social channels, and the closing seconds of every studio video.
He came to film through engineering. Born in Ukraine and trained as a civil engineer at Krivorozskiy Technical University, he moved into broadcast post-production in his last years of study and never went back to construction. Over the thirteen years that followed, he edited international television across Kyiv, Moscow, and Palo Alto — The Bachelor, Survivor, Fort Boyard, Total Blackout, Ninja Warrior, The Biggest Loser. He earned TEFI, the Russian television industry's annual prize, for The Biggest Loser and again for Survivor; and Teletriumf, Ukraine's national television award, for The Bachelor. He cut commercial work in California and motion design in Moscow.
In 2022 he left broadcast for independent work. Since then he has built a practice as a CG artist — modelling, sculpting, texturing, and rigging for animation and games — while developing his own work in painting and 3D image-making. The shift was gradual until it wasn't: from the rhythm of weekly television to the slower pace of objects made one at a time.
At Kintsugi Gallery he is the keeper of how the work is seen. How a painting reaches its audience as an image. How a pair of geta becomes a thirty-second film. How a Wednesday letter arrives with its photograph. The studio is the source; he is the form it travels in.
